Casual Bio
Mert Ozbolat (1990) studied architecture in Istanbul and Brighton. He is currently working as freelance architectural designer in London. His experience spans from jewel crafting, interior design, and architecture. He is a multifaceted designer who takes pleasure working in between interdisciplinary mediums and expressions in small to big scale architectural applications and designs. In his work, his intentions take shape in making and drawing. Drawing and creating connections in between fragments of spaces, materials and compositions of substantialised feelings are expressed in created objects with strong visual language.
Since 2019, he is working on EMBD Community Initiative research with Stefan Lengen. This design research explores strategies to reactivate the productive landscapes and dormant building structures to reverse the trend of abandonment by facilitating a circular economy within the common(s) network in collaboration with local communities, trade, stakeholders, and the planning authorities. Research aims to create a method of work which explores participatory design principles, advocating collaborative work, local material sourcing and innovative construction methodologies that address whole-life approach. In 2022, research is published in Lisbon Architecture Triennale 2022 - Terra under the title of ‘’A community-led research initiative for a productive landscape’’ in ‘’Emerging voices on new architectural ecologies’’ book. In 2023, Productive Landscapes pilot project has won best small scale conceptual project award in SARCH Berlin 2023. Nowadays, he is working on his personal furniture projects. Lately, he is working alongside Cloudyworks with the Lidar technology.
